Dr. Shahverdyan is a researcher, consultant, and education professional with more than 20 years of expertise in her field. She has been working in the education sector since 2001 at the crossroads of international aid and non-governmental organizations contributing to critical reforms in human capital development. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in pedagogy, English and French from Vanadzor State Pedagogical Institute, and earned a Master of Education in educational administration and organizational development from Kent State University in 2000. Dr. Shahverdyan was awarded her Doctor of Philosophy in leadership in education and the theory and history of pedagogy by the Armenian State Pedagogical University in 2007.
Dr. Shahverdyan began her professional career in 2001 working concurrently as an education manager for PH International and an assistant professor at Brusov State University. In 2008, she left PH International to accept dual roles as a VET standards and curriculum development expert for Nehem International BV and an Armenia-based workforce development specialist for USAID/CAPS administered by Nathan Associates. She remained with USAID/CAPS until 2011, when she accepted her current role as an education consultant for the World Bank Group, where she is primarily responsible for designing, developing, and implementing educational projects, including contributing to business development, engagement, and building relationships with key stakeholders in the public sector.
In addition to her work in industry and nonprofits, Dr. Shahverdyan is a respected educator who has taught BA and MA courses in traditional and transitional settings and at Yerevan Brusov State University. She stepped down in 2021 after 20 years with the school having risen to become an associate professor. In recognition of her commitment to service and excellence in implementing the World Bank Group's global mission, Dr. Shahverdyan has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the International Alumni Award from the College of Education, Health and Human Services at Kent State University; U.S. State Department Alumna of the Month; Manoukian Public Service Fellowship with Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University; and World Bank's Vice President Award and Above and Beyond Awards. She credits her success to the support of her family and to her parents for emphasizing the opportunities that a quality education could provide her. Throughout her career, Dr. Shahverdyan has been a member of professional associations and has given back to her community as a longtime donor and volunteer for the Armenian Special Olympics program. In her personal time, Dr. Shahverdyan enjoys attending cultural events, playing piano, and traveling.
