He is also fire district commissioner for Slingerlands Fire District, through which he maintains responsibility for overseeing agency operations, including finances and policy development, review, and implementation. Similarly, he manages all insurance aspects of the district. Drawing on his considerable skills and 25 years as an EMT, he is also a member of the board of directors for Delmar-Bethlehem EMS.
Over the years, Mr. Hornick worked as an adjunct instructor at SUNY Delhi and Columbia-Greene Community College, an advisory board member for the Zone 5 Law Enforcement Training Center, and as a police commander and FBI certified crisis negotiator and New York State certified fire investigator for the Bethlehem Police Department. During the early stages of his career, he gained valuable expertise in the field in various positions with Columbia-Green Community College, the Bethlehem Police Department, the Capital Region Forensic Hazardous Materials Team, and the Albany County Sheriff's Office. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Hornick aligns himself with the Delmar-Bethlehem EMS, the New York State and International Associations of Chiefs of Police, the Capital District Fire Investigators Association, the New York chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators, and the Onesquethaw Volunteer Fire Co. just to name a few.
An expert in his field, Mr. Hornick holds an Associate of Arts and Sciences in criminal justice from Hudson Valley Community College and a Bachelor of Science in the same discipline from the State University of New York at Albany. Subsequently, he expanded upon his professional knowledge, earning a Master of Public Administration from Marist College and becoming a certified emergency medical technician through the New York State Department of Health. In light of his outstanding body of work, he has been honored many times through the Town of Bethlehem, earning several Chief's Achievement Awards, the Department Unit Citation, the Exceptional Duty Award, the Negotiators Laurel Award, and the Officer of the Year Award. Likewise, he won the George Infante Outstanding Achievement in Law Enforcement Award through the Albany County District Attorney's Office and the Drug Buster Award from the Bethlehem Police Department.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Hornick takes the most pride in solving a 41-year-old, John Doe cold case for the police department. The cornerstone of his success lay in obtaining his master's degree while working full-time, as well as his dedication, and willingness to grow within the field.
