Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in international relations between Germany and the United States, Dr. Donovan has earned distinction as the executive director of 1014 Inc. Having led the organization on behalf of its board since its establishment in 2017, she has focused her efforts on developing and leading the trans-Atlantic programming, communications, human resources, finance and administration for the institution, specializing in event and nonprofit organizational management. Additionally, she lends her expertise as a board member to "Off the Record," a program of the U.S. Foreign Policy Association, as well as the E-Axes Forum. She is also a honorary fellow of the U.S. Foreign Policy Association, member of the American Council on Germany, the United Nations Association of Germany, and the Göttingen Association for International Law, among other professional organizations.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Donovan began her career as a research assistant for international and constitutional law with the University of Göttingen in 1996 and became an adviser in the policy planning unit of the German Federal Foreign Office in 2001. Following this time, she served as a political affairs negotiator for the German Mission to the United Nations New York in 2002 until returning to the Federal Foreign Office as an attorney in the human resources department in 2013. She continued her career as the head of cultural affairs and science for the German Consulate General New York in 2015.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Donovan earned a Juris Doctor from the University of Göttingen in Germany in 1998. She also completed a summer course in common law with the London School of Economics and Political Science. Subsequently, she underwent legal training in Berlin and diplomatic training in Bonn, Germany.
Within the coming years, Dr. Donovan intends to continue growing 1014 Inc. as a trans-Atlantic organization that takes on global topics in interdisciplinary formats. Believing in holistic approaches to foreign policy, including trans-Atlantic relations, she dedicates her energy into advancing 1014 as a space for ideas that brings people together from both sides of the Atlantic. She also intends to continue facilitating the refurbishment of 1014 Fifth Avenue - owned by the German government - to open it further for a modern use by 1014 Inc. while preserving the historic character of the townhouse with its rich trans-Atlantic history.
