Leveraging more than three decades of excellence in community building, Ms. Shifflett has earned distinction as the executive director of the Warren Coalition, a drug prevention agency focusing primarily on middle school and high school students until 2021 when it expanded to provide treatment and recovery services. Since 2010, she has focused her efforts on developing initiatives to build safe, healthy communities. Ms. Shifflett assists individuals working on trauma, anxiety, and anger management issues, and provides drug, alcohol, and addiction education at RSW regional jail. She was flattered to have Warren Coalition be selected to create a presentation on the Dangers of Fentanyl for First Lady of Virginia, Suzanne Youngkin. In May 2023, the Warren Coalition opened The Landing, the first recovery house in Warren County.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Shifflett began her career as the service manager for TYS, a national soft frozen yogurt company with 1800 accounts. She sought a job that has a lasting impact and became a teacher for Frederick County Public Schools in Winchester, Virginia in 1993. Following this time, she served as a council coordinator for the Northwestern Community Services Board in 1996 until taking a role as the executive director of the FOCUS Coalition in 2000.
Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Shifflett certifies people trauma informed and trauma supportive through the Community Resilience Initiative. She frequently shares her expertise at the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America National Leadership and Mid-Year conferences with topics that include building community resilience, sustainability, and capacity building.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Shifflett earned a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Economics from William and Mary in 1986. Following this achievement, she attained a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education from James Madison University in 1995. Well-qualified in her field, she is a certified Getting Relationships Right trainer, Recovery Ally, and anger, anxiety and trauma specialist.
