EL SEGUNDO, CA, August 23, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Donald J. Kahn Jr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Currently Mr. Kahn is a Project Executive at Largo Concrete. He is noted for his extensive leadership and expertise in the construction industry. He is responsible for substantial structural concrete projects for multi-million-dollar high-rise developments, large podiums, mixed-use properties, residential, multi-unit facilities, and educational and institutional facilities overseeing all pre-construction and construction aspects of the business for each key project. Mr. Kahn is also heavily involved in planning, logistics, estimating, and managing contracts, costs, and scheduling. Moreover, on most projects he manages a team of up to 15 team members, vendors, subcontractors, and owner representatives to ensure successful collaboration and results.
Having come from a small town, but leaving for the many career opportunities in Los Angeles, he enjoys reflecting on how much he has advanced and grown in his career as a result of this move, from working with small construction companies to joining much larger enterprises building high-rises and other complex projects. Donald, who followed in his father's footsteps, Don Kahn Sr., spent his entire career in the construction management business managing his own firm and teaching Donald Jr. the business. He has enjoyed his diverse and rewarding tenure and looks forward to future success.
Mr. Kahn began his career in 1984 as a project manager at Keller Construction. Recruited by Lowe Enterprises in 1996, he spent the next few years as an Assistant Vice-President of development and construction. Additionally, Mr. Kahn garnered expertise with Morley Builders from 2003 to 2015 as a senior project manager responsible for many of the largest projects. During his tenure at Morley Builders, Mr. Kahn provided construction management support for large residential and dining facilities at University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). From there he pivoted from construction management, development and general contracting to concrete design & construction.
Upon his move to Largo Concrete in 2015, Mr. Kahn has been the lead Project Executive on a myriad of large scale projects ($25M+ and incorporating numerous engineered systems), including the award winning projects CIRCA and Ivy Station. CIRCA is a dual tower project compromising two residential towers in downtown Los Angeles across from Crypto.com arena. The CIRCA Project was notably named the 2019 Project of the Year by the Southern California Chapter of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). The Ivy Station Project, a major mixed-use project in the heart of Culver City, garnered awards from ACI in infrastructure, design/engineering and decorative aspects. In addition to large scale projects, due to his experience and engineering know-how, Mr. Kahn is consistently called upon to aid in the design and construction of new concrete systems or new product introductions in the field.
His projects have been awarded many accolades, in addition to those already noted other include Charles J. Pankow Jr. Award from the Southern California chapter of ACI in 2005 and 2018, a Golden Trowel Award with a Silver Plate from FACE Industries in 2008, and a Decorative Concrete Council Award from the American Society of Concrete Contractors in 2017, reflecting his leadership capabilities and management guidance.
Giving back to his community, Mr. Kahn has lent his time and expertise to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles since 2016. He has also been a competition judge on behalf of Engineering News-Record (ENR) since 2019, a weekly magazine designed for the construction industry. Among other involvement, Mr. Kahn has served as a volunteer mentor for a local high school and the ACE Mentor Program in Los Angeles, which helps students interested in pursuing architecture, construction and engineering careers. Through his positions and contacts in the ACI community, he is actively growing student ACI Chapters and generating scholarship opportunities for young construction management and engineering students.
Well-qualified in his field, Mr. Kahn received a bachelor's degree in construction management from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo in 1984. He returned to college years later, obtaining a Master of Business Administration from the University of California at Los Angeles in 2007. Adding to his credentials, Mr. Kahn completed the Concrete Flatwork Technician program through ACI and currently holds both 10-hour and 30-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration certifications. To remain well-versed in his field, Mr. Kahn remains a prominent member and former board member of ACI and a member of the American Society of Concrete Contractors.
