A skilled mortuary science professional with more than four decades of excellence in funeral direction, Mr. Bowen has earned distinction as an advisor for the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home. Since 2021, he has focused his efforts on assisting the business to continue to thrive, being the fifth-generation member to operate the funeral home. He previously was responsible for all managerial and personnel duties as well as arranging funerals and burials with families, conducting funerals and burial services, managing seven cemeteries and selling monuments.
Prior to his most recent role, Mr. Bowen began his career as a funeral assistant with the Mann Mortuary in 1967 and became the owner and manager of the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in 1969. He led the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home until 2021, at which time he entered semi-retirement. He also served as the president of the Tennessee Funeral Directors Association from 1986 until 1987. He is a 50-year, third generation mason in the Waverly Masonic Lodge #304, a Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite.
To prepare for his career as a funeral director, Mr. Bowen earned a Bachelor of Science in business from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in 1969. Following this achievement, he completed a mortuary science program at the John A. Gupton College. Well-qualified in his field, he is a licensed funeral director and embalmer with the Fountain National Academy of Professional Embalming Skills. Within the coming years, Mr. Bowen intends to continue enjoying his retirement, spending more time with his grandchildren as they grow and become successful themselves.
