He used less chemicals in the soil, and less antibiotics in raising his beef cattle well before these measures were popular.
ELKADER, IA, August 31, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard D. Dinan has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Dinan has earned distinction as a farmer of five decades. From 1964 until his retirement in 2016, he focused his efforts on serving his industry as well as his community. Additionally, he lent his expertise as a board member of the Clayton County Farm Bureau.
Mr. Dinan is the current president of Clayton County Substance Abuse Services and works with county supervisors, educating them and encouraging the board members and younger generation to get involved in obtaining services for those affected by the family disease of alcoholism. He also served as a founding member of the Iowa Coalition of Mental Health and Aging and has continued to educate Iowans on the need for mental health services.
He has also been a strong member of Clayton County Democrats for over 50 years. He ran for Clayton County Supervisor, campaigning on agriculture, money management, clean air, clean water and mental health, in 2018. Even though he didn't win, he continues to try to educate Iowans on these importance issues.
He has been a volunteer in many areas and has been dedicated to helping his community since his youth, having been inspired by his uncle who was a World War II veteran. He began his volunteer efforts transporting veterans to the VA hospital in Iowa City and continued that service over the years. He also clears sidewalks and driveways of snow in the winters for the elderly and widowed. He is an animal lover who has taken stray cats to the veterinarian for spaying and neutering.
His wife explains that watching him on the farm was a joy; his herd of 155 cattle would come running to him as he drove his tractor out in the fields in the hills of the Dinan farm in Clayton County, Iowa. He used safer techniques in farming to protect the water and air qualities. He used less chemicals in the soil, and less antibiotics in raising his beef cattle well before these measures were popular. He has farmed since he was 14 years of age; his first business experience was raising sheep during his teens.
In his free time, he enjoyed bowling and was president of the local American League Bowling Association for many years, his team being in the top three for several years. Mr. Dinan has 13 trophies in his home to attest to his skills.
Within the coming years, Mr. Dinan intends to focus more of his charitable efforts on supporting small businesses in his community, defending them against the politics of larger corporations buying them out. He also continues his volunteer work by rescuing animals and lending his compassion to others who are grieving at funerals.
