As an experienced executive and entrepreneur with extensive expertise in helping nonprofit leaders and business owners scale their organizations, Mr. Duarte's role at IF includes chairing its global investment committee and supporting key investments across the United States and Latin America.
Mr. Duarte is the former Chief Philanthropy Officer of ZOMALAB and the former President of the organization's ZOMA Foundation between 2017 and 2020. He also worked for Gary Community Ventures, initially as a consultant from 2012 to 2013 and subsequently as investment director between 2013 and 2017, responsible for overseeing innovation and impact investing. Mr. Duarte has remained the vice chair of the board of directors at Gary Community Ventures since 2018. As an entrepreneur, he notably co-founded and served as the Chief Revenue Officer at YoReciclo, an environmental services company, from 2008 to 2012 and as the organization's Board Chair between 2011 and 2012. He also co-founded Cleanco de Mexico, which he oversaw between 2001 and 2003.
Besides his full-time commitments at IF, Mr. Duarte has served as a board member for several organizations, including the ParentPowered Public Benefit Corporation in the U.S., Ticmas and Fidu in Latin America, since 2020. He has also been a global board member at B Lab since 2019 and is recognized as a Colorado Governors fellow and Unreasonable Institute fellow.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Duarte aspires to help more leaders achieve their goals on a global scale, primarily those involved in socially oriented ventures with worldwide impact.
Adamant about the importance of giving back to educational and civic initiatives, Mr. Duarte has held several leadership roles with such organizations as the Barton Institute for Philanthropy and Social Enterprise at the University of Denver, the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, the Colorado Association of Funders, the Blackstone Entrepreneurs Network of Colorado, and, among others, the Colorado Enterprise Fund.
Mr. Duarte was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and later moved to the U.S. In Mexico, he acquired a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with a minor in industrial engineering, cum laude, from Tecnológico de Monterrey. Mr. Duarte then garnered a Master of Business Administration in finance and strategy, cum laude, from the Babson F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business in Massachusetts.
