A skilled professional with more than 15 years of excellence in managing people and personnel in the marine transport industry, Ms. Floyd has earned distinction as the chief mate of the International Organization of Masters, Mates, and Pilots. Since 2023, she has focused her efforts on managing a department of 10 to 20 people, depending on the size of the vessels, handling payroll and human resources as well as ordering, budget and equipment management. She monitors safety for the personnel and ensures operations are running smoothly. Additionally, she has been the principal and owner of Marine View Logistics since 2022 and the co-founder of Oceans Unlimited since 2020. She is also a valued member of the Women International Shipping and Trade Association, Women on the Water and Women Offshore.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Floyd began her career as a sales and customer service representative for Designer's Furniture Warehouse in 2005 and was a page for the Everett Public Library in 2006. She continued her career as a student assistant for the University of Washington Bothell in 2008 and was also a first mate and deckhand for Auke Bay Charters from 2008 until 2015. During this time, she also served as a marketing and sales intern for Distributed Energy Management in 2010 and was a group sales intern for Comcast Arena in 2011. Also in 2011, she also served as a premium service coordinator for Global Spectrum for a year. In 2015, she became a deck cadet for Central Marine Logistics and functioned in a similar capacity for Polar Tankers Inc. in 2016.
Following this period, Ms. Floyd served as an able-bodied seaman for the Alaska Marine Highway, a third mate and Second Mate for the Great Lakes Fleet and a third mate for the American Steamship Company in 2017. She then joined the International Organization of Masters, Mates, and Pilots in 2018 as a third mate, becoming a second mate in 2020. She is proud to have become a chief mate in an industry that is only 2%–4% women with only a handful of female chief mates and captains.
To prepare for her professional journey, Ms. Floyd earned an Associate's degree from Everett Community College in 2008 and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences from the University of Washington Bothell in 2010. Following these achievements, she attained a Bachelor's degree in Marine Transportation from Great Lakes Maritime Academy in 2016. Among her academic accomplishments, she was named Deck Cadet of the Year at Great Lakes Maritime Academy, as well as being a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and on the Dean's List her entire educational career. Well-qualified in her field, she holds a 1600-ton Master's License, an Unlimited Tonnage Chief Mates License, and is a licensed Pilot of the Great Lakes and Connecting Waterways. Within the coming years, Ms. Floyd intends to become a Captain of Unlimited Tonnage. She also plans to grow her business and become a staple and name brand within the industry.
