Leveraging almost two decades of excellence in quality assurance, Ms. Salandanan has earned distinction as an Administrative Laboratory Manager for the Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Medical Center. From 2012 until her retirement in 2022, she focused her efforts on developing policies for the Point of Care Testing Laboratory, ensuring non-laboratory healthcare personnel performing laboratory testing were knowledgeable, competent and compliant. She led the integration of all point-of-care testing devices into the hospital information system and led several successful laboratory accreditations conducted by the College of American Pathologists. She also managed the center's phlebotomy services, guaranteeing the quality of blood specimens collected through proper training of the collectors and timely transportation of blood specimens to the Core Processing area.
Among her professional accomplishments, Ms. Salandanan was honored with an Outstanding Inspector Award from the College of American Pathology in 2011. Through her leadership efforts with the Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Medical Center, she was able to reduce patient wait time for blood draw from almost two hours to less than one hour and reduced the rate of mislabeled specimens by implementing a handheld device used to obtain positive patient identification.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Salandanan began her career with the Los Angeles County+University of Southern California Medical Center as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in 1988. She was promoted to a Supervising Clinical Laboratory Scientist in 2005, developing and implementing policies for point-of-care testing devices while leading a team that provides training for non-laboratory personnel that conduct laboratory testing for inpatients and ambulatory clinics. She also served as a chair for the Los Angeles County Departments of Health Services' Point of Care Testing Standardization Committee from 2005 until 2022, coordinating monthly meetings to collaborate on the evaluation, selection, validation or implementation of point-of-care testing devices.
To prepare for her professional journey, Ms. Salandanan earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from the College of the Holy Spirit in Manila, Philippines. Following this achievement, she attained a Master of Business Administration in organizational leadership from Mount Saint Mary's University in 2017.
Looking to the future, Ms. Salandanan intends to spend more of her time caring for the elderly in her community, as she has noticed not many people are invested in doing so. She also plans to continue consulting and is presently assisting a hospital with the implementation of its new analyzer.
