ST. LOUIS, MO, September 01, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brittany R. Staples has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Staples performed her undergraduate schooling at the University of Colorado where she earned a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Psychology and minoring in Chemistry. There, she became a valued member of the chemistry department as a teaching assistant in General Chemistry. She began her medical education in southern California at the Western University of Health Sciences where she held the position of President of her class in her first year of medical school. This was followed by nomination as the President of the Student Government Association which presided over the nine health profession colleges comprising the institution. She then began serving as a student physician at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs Hospital, Oliveview UCLA Medical Center, and Valley Presbyterian in Los Angeles California.
With more than half a decade of excellence in surgery, Dr. Staples has earned distinction as a foot and ankle surgeon with United States Foot and Ankle Specialists. In 2017, she began her training in St. Louis at SSM Health DePaul Hospital Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency Program, where in her final year, she acted as the Chief Resident. She was then hired by her residency directors into their private practice, with the intention of continued learning and refining her surgical skill alongside her mentors.
Since graduating residency in 2020, she has focused her efforts on seeing patients in the office and surgically, as well as participating as an attending from the residency program from which she graduated. Dr. Staples serves a large portion of the St. Louis area extending further south into Farmington, Missouri as well. Professionally, she is certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and qualified by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery where she will be sitting for certification this upcoming year.
Looking to the future, Dr. Staples intends to continue becoming more involved in academia and research with the residents, rising to become a pillar of surgical society. Inspired by her father Dr. Lon Horwitz who is also a foot specialist, and by her residency directors Dr. H. John Visser and Dr. Carmina Quiroga, she is proud to help continue in changing the perception of her specialty as well as the perception of a woman's role in surgery by means of continued collaboration with orthopedic liaisons, to improve the quality of patient care.
