Dr. Ammons strives to continue serving others and educating others about ways to achieve a healthy lifestyle, manage stress, escape abusive situations, and live in the present.
ROME, AL, September 07, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Katharine M. Ammons, MD, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Ammons is distinguished for nearly three decades of dedication to the medical field. An expert in Internal Medicine, she is a Board-Certified physician and Partner with Harbin Clinic in Rome, a physician-owned, multi-specialty clinic. Adjacent to providing patient care, she is committed to teaching the next generation of medical professionals as a faculty member at Mercer University School of Medicine and serves as Preceptor for Middle Georgia College Nurse Practitioner students.
Thinking back to her childhood, Dr. Ammons recalls a longstanding passion for helping others; she initially pursued nursing as a career because she began college at age sixteen and was told she was too young to know she wanted to be a doctor. While she enjoyed helping others as a nurse, she always felt she could do more. Deeply empathetic, Dr. Ammons attributes her success to genuinely caring about, and listening to, her patients. Whether providing an early diagnosis, connecting someone to much-needed social services, or simply laughing and praying with her patients, she takes immense pride in her ability to improve, and even save, lives. And when the time comes for someone to transition from this life to the next, Dr Ammons is humbled to be able to help the patient do so with dignity and peace of mind.
Dr. Ammons earned a Doctor of Medicine from Mercer University School of Medicine, where she was named Medical Student of the Year, and a Bachelor of Scienced in Biology, cum laude, from Shorter University. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Medical Center of Central Georgia. She holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from Columbus State University, formerly Columbus College.
Prior to joining the team at Harbin Clinic in 2005, Dr. Ammons worked in private practice and served patients' needs at Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center and Redmond Regional Medical Center. While she continued her private practice, she also served as Hospice Director and Medical Director for an HIV clinic. While in nursing, Dr. Ammons worked primarily in intensive care, some time in home health.
Outside of work, Dr. Ammons enjoys spending time with her daughter, Mary Beth, as well as other family and friends. Her hobbies include playing guitar, animal rescue, reading, cooking and music. A volunteer in her community, she contributes to the betterment of society by feeding the homeless and donating food for the poor. She previously offered her expertise as a volunteer Deputy Coroner for Cherokee County, Alabama, serving now as Consultant. Looking toward the future, Dr. Ammons strives to continue serving others and educating others about ways to achieve a healthy lifestyle, manage stress, escape abusive situations, and live in the present.
