Mr. Kirkpatrick is a board-certified counselor and forensic therapist who has dedicated his career to working with sex offenders and victims of abuse. He holds a Bachelor of Science in community health with an emphasis in addiction from Central Washington University, and earned his Master's degree in counseling psychology at Chapman University. As a part of his commitment to serving his clients, Mr. Kirkpatrick is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has obtained certification as a Certified Clinical Sex Offense Therapist.
He began his career in sexual offense specific treatment in 2001 as a forensic therapist for the state of Washington, and added private practice responsibilities in 2004 as an Affiliate Sex Offender Treatment Provider for Lang Taylor & Associates. In 2008, he left both positions to open Kirkpatrick & Associates Counseling, a private practice specializing in working with those who have offended sexually and are under the supervision of the Department of Corrections, Sexually Violent Persons as they transition from the civil commitment system into the community, juveniles who have sexually offended, and children who are victims of sexual abuse. He provides treatment for patients in the community including communications with the state of Wisconsin, supervising officers, and other providers, and has treated high-risk adult and juvenile offenders. Since 2016, he has focused on his role as owner of the practice.
He has specialized in plethysmography, and has conducted plethysmograph assessments since 2004. He uses plethysmography in conjunction with Sexual Arousal Management via Minimal Arousal Conditioning to decrease dynamic risk factors directly related to sexual recidivism and to improve the lives of the patients with whom he works.
In addition to his work in mental health, Mr. Kirkpatrick is a professional disc golf player, and he has combined his skills to offer a pioneering Disc Golf Play Therapy program to work with children who have offended sexually and who have been sexually victimized. He has worked with other community resources to teach a monthlong youth disc golf skills clinic, and provide additional services for underserved and at risk youth in the community. He is sponsored by Wingz Disc Golf, Ridge Roller Customs, and Prodigy Disc Golf who have supported his work with chidlren.
As a veteran professional in his specialty, Mr. Kirkpatrick is a Fellow of the Association for the Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse and a member of the American Counseling Association.
