A Komatsu Ltd. level 4 certified expert trainer and Mine Safety and Health Administration-certified instructor, Mr. Wilson has earned distinction as an operator, instructor and developer for the Cartersville Customer Center. Since 2012, he has focused his efforts on developing and instructing surface mining equipment operator training. He emphasizes safe and efficient operations while evaluating those operations to determine ways to improve safety. He is also currently managing the development of a North American operator trainer qualification program in conjunction with Komatsu Ltd. in Japan. Additionally, he has been a lead operator instructor for Komatsu America Corp. since 2012 and is a valued member of the International Society of Mine Safety Professionals.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Wilson began his career as a mining equipment operator for N.A. Degerstrom Inc. in 1992 and served in a similar role for Gilbert Western and Meridian Gold in 1994. Following this period, he was a haul truck driver for the Newmont Mining Corporation in 1995 and joined the Round Mountain Gold Corp. later that year as a heavy equipment operator and trainer. In 2003, functioned in a similar capacity for the Glenrock Coal Company for two years and worked with the Trapper Mining Company from 2005 until 2012. During this time, he was also an adjunct instructor for Colorado Northwestern Community College from 2009 until 2010 teaching Mine Safety and Health Administration classes which are required for working in mines in the United States.
Outside of his primary career efforts, Mr. Wilson was honored to work with Tom Hanks on the movie "Finch," which unfortunately was not released to theaters due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He trained Tom Hanks and his doubles how to drive the truck he was using in the first five minutes of the movie. Added to this, he was selected to spend a month in the Seward Peninsula of Alaska to work at a gold mine for the Hoffman Family.
Looking to the future, Mr. Wilson intends to grow his professional development by earning degrees relevant to his field while engaging in consulting work. He is proud that he makes better and safer operators for each company he works with, having worked in the mining industry for over 21 years.
