After a long and successful career with LTF Eye Clinic, Ms. Binder resigned to pursue higher education. Having spent 15 years at the facility in varying roles, the last four included serving as the clinical manager. In this capacity, she managed various administrative aspects of the facility, from managing employees and reviewing treatment plans to overseeing budgeting. During Ms. Binder's tenure, she made several necessary changes to the clinic, including improving patient care and employee morale. She attributes her success to her faith and passion for education, problem solving skills, and a sincere desire to serve others.
Ms. Binder formerly spent 15 years as a public school nurse. Prior to that she garnered experience as an orthopedic, oncology and rehabilitation RN in an acute care setting. Presently pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing from Purdue University, her goal is to earn her degree in two years. Having been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 10 years ago, she has undergone two brain surgeries and has been involved in eight research studies. Once she acquires her second degree, she envisions educating others about the disease and being a patient advocate. Ms. Binder currently volunteers at the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where she is actively involved in research.
Highly educated, Ms. Binder garnered a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana University Northwest in 1985. She holds credentials as a certified school nurse and certified ophthalmic nurse. Ms. Binder remains a lifetime member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.
Believing in self-sufficiency, Ms. Binder successfully put herself through college working up to 4 part-time jobs. As the eldest of four siblings, she was the first to receive a higher education on either side of the family. Having to work to pay her way, she proved that having a passion for continuing education problem solving, and teaching can inspire others to strive for excellence, professionalism and scientific based knowledge in any field.
To remain aware of developments in her industry, Ms. Binder is an active member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses. Highlighting her success, Ms. Binder received a Faculty Recognition Award and a Students Recognition Award in 1985 as a member of the first Bachelor of Science in Nursing class at Indiana University Northwest.
