He leads the research and development for the company, providing strategic leadership, technical expertise, specialized knowledge in portfolio selection, client interactions and business development. Prior to that Dr. Nekkanti has successfully managed research & development, new product development, technology transfer and regulatory functions. Dr. Nekkanti has extensive knowledge and experience in drug delivery technologies, process development and manufacturing of small and large molecule parenteral products, including suspensions, emulsions, inclusion complexes and liposomes in liquid and lyophilized dosage forms, pre-filled syringes, I.V. bags, long acting injectables (LAI's), and drug device combination products. He also has expertise in design and development of early-stage formulations to support IND enabling and clinical phase studies. Dr. Nekkanti has a successful track record of working with several NDAs, ANDAs, and 505(b)(2) products. His major focus has been driving innovation in science and research, mentoring scientists, and adopting sustainable technologies and practices envisioning the future health care needs.
Before his present role with American Injectables Inc., Dr. Nekkanti began his career as an officer for production operations at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories in 2000, later holding positions with increasing responsibilities at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd., Pfizer Inc., Custopharm Inc., and Humanwell Pharmaceutical US, Inc.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Nekkanti was honored with a Best Paper Presentation Award at the 2007 Indian Pharmaceutical Congress and won a Best Innovation Award from Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. in 2010. He also received a Travel Grant Award from Texture Technologies Corporation in 2013 and a Lipid Based Drug Delivery focus groups Travel Grant Award from the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists in 2014. He has published 24 manuscripts in international peer reviewed journals and authored several book chapters and formulation patents. Dr. Nekkanti also served as a collaborator and external consultant for NIH projects.
To prepare for his professional journey, Dr. Nekkanti earned a master's degree in industrial pharmacy from Annamalai University and a post-graduate diploma in patent law from the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law in India. Following this achievement, he attained a Doctor of Philosophy in pharmaceutical sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU). He subsequently gained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from California State University San Marcos (CSUSM). Well-qualified in his field, he is a verified peer reviewer for Publons and certified in project management by the University of La Verne.
Within the coming years, Dr. Nekkanti intends to rise to an executive role within his organization to ensure sustainability, profitability, development, and global expansion of the company.
