Hailing from a family of educators and coming of age in a university town where much emphasis was placed on academia, Dr. Caroline Means Bitterwolf desired to become a teacher herself. First earning a BS in education from Centenary College of Louisiana in 1968, she went on to work for a number of school districts across West Virginia at Wiley H. Bates Junior High School and Maryland, including Anne Arundel County Public Schools, where she served as a teacher at Germantown Elementary School, Harman Elementary School and Annapolis Junior High School until 1988. While tending to her teaching appointments, Dr. Bitterwolf studied at the University of Maryland, from which she received an MEd in mathematics in 1987.
