MURFREESBORO, TN, September 18, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Ivan Murcia has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Murcia is an expert in health care management and product and service development. Since earning a Doctor of Medicine from the Universidad Libre of Colombia in 2003, he has gone on to build an impressive resume of accomplishments and contributions. Upon graduating, he was an honorable mention for obtaining the highest score in the ECAES State Quality Exam (Higher Education Quality Exams) in the medical program. Following his education, Dr. Murcia became certified in audit and quality assurance in health, with an emphasis on epidemiology, from EAN University in 2006, and then hospital administration in 2007.
After receiving his degree and certifications, Dr. Murcia pivoted toward educating others. From 2009 to 2010, he held the position of university postgraduate professor at the University of Santiago de Cali, and invested much of his time in medicine, working as a physician for two years. While Dr. Murcia's education and his pursuit of it have played a crucial role in his success, it is how he has applied his education, obtaining and capitalizing on hands-on experiences, that has truly set him apart. From 2005 to 2006, he held the position of medical office coordinator at Hospital San Antonio in Cundinamarca, Colombia. Within the same hospital, he then moved on to become the medical and quality auditor from 2006 to 2008.
During Dr. Murcia's last year at Hospital San Antonio, he also worked at Hospital el Tunal in Bogotá as a quality and patient safety auditor. While there, he earned first place-gold in 2007 as a pioneer for progress in the implementation of the quality management system from Bogotá City Hall, along with a certificate of recognition from the El Tunal State Social Enterprise Quality Office. From 2008 to 2010, Dr. Murcia subsequently took on the role of chief quality officer at Salud Total EPS in Bogotá before stepping up as the national quality coordinator at Linde, a multinational corporation based out of Munich, Germany, in 2010.
While working for the Colombian branch of Linde, Dr. Murcia became a member of the REMEO Clinical and Medical Management Team in 2012 and was recognized for his commitment and excellence in the search, preparation, development and implementation of medical records software to ensure growth of the REMEO Colombia program the same year. Then, in 2013, he was recognized again by Linde for his valuable contribution to improving REMEO profit margins by almost 50% by redefining existing processes. Dr. Murcia's time at Linde continued and his contributions to the company further improved their quality and profits. From 2011 to 2015, he excelled as the medical and quality national director and manager for Linde AG. During this period, he also became a member of the American Association of Respiratory Care in 2014.
Dr. Murcia stayed with Linde, working his way up to occupy the position of head of medical affairs South America, which he held from 2015 to 2016, and then global medical manager and director in 2016, a position that required him to relocate to Germany. In taking charge of the global medical department for Linde, Dr. Murcia oversaw their operations in various countries across Europe, the U.S., and South America. Notably, during his time in these positions, Colombia emerged as the top-performing nation for the company, even outcompeting major European players. As a result of his noteworthy contributions, Dr. Murcia received the global healthcare recognition award and the Espíritu Linde award in 2013. The year prior, he garnered further recognition for his output and innovative ideas: his "Exhibition and Evaluation of posters; from a dream to the achievement of successful results" won the contest held within the framework of the inaugural Latin American Meeting on Quality and Patient Safety and the 21st International Forum, OES 2012.
While gaining in-depth experiences and contributing to his field, Dr. Murcia had returned to university for a master's degree in management of healthcare organizations, which he earned from the University of Barcelona in 2017. Post master's degree, he went on to fulfill the role of health and corporate development director at Proseguir, in Bogotá, Colombia, before working as the health director for business development at Colsanitas in Bogota, Colombia, from 2017 to 2019. In 2019, Dr. Murcia immigrated to the U.S. and took on the role of vice president of health at Sanitas USA to lead healthcare projects in the Sanitas Medical Center locations across 5 states.
Since starting at Sanitas, Dr. Murcia has continued to climb the ladder of leadership. In 2020, he was appointed chief executive officer for Tennessee, a position he still holds, as well as chief product officer Sanitas USA, which he held until 2021. As the chief executive officer for Sanitas TN, he is responsible for opening a new business in a new market and region in Tennessee, as Sanitas is partnering with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee for a joint venture in operating primary care centers in Memphis and Nashville. Day to day, Dr. Murcia manages relationships with the business's partners, builds a network with stakeholders in the community, and continues to seek out opportunities to expand operations at Sanitas. While he strives to stabilize operations and processes in this new market, Dr. Murcia's primary goal is to ensure patients are receiving the care they seek at Sanitas' medical centers.
Among his many publications as both author and contributor, Dr. Murcia most recently wrote "Disruptive Models in Primary Care PCPCC", published in 2019, and is credited as a contributor to "Validation of the Multi-INdependence Dimensions (MIND) questionnaire for prolonged mechanically ventilated subjects", published in BMC Pulmonary Medicine in 2019. Aside from his contributions to the medical literature, he speaks at international conferences in Colombia, Curaçao, and the United States. Dr. Murcia attributes the success he has found in health care over the past 20 years to his unwavering persistence, determination, and focus on the positive aspects of each situation. He remains receptive to change and is always eager to expand his knowledge in both his field and for the sake of personal growth.
As a bilingual speaker, Dr. Murcia wants to continue acquiring new languages, such as Portuguese. Professionally, he hopes to continue to expand and enhance Sanitas' health care services across Tennessee, and neighboring states by opening new locations in other regions as well as establishing multispecialty care centers and hospitals throughout the region. Furthermore, he aspires to continue fine-tuning his work-life balance. Recently, Dr. Murcia began traveling to La Guajira, Colombia, for mission trips. He values his home country, his community in the U.S., and his family, whom he credits as a crucial component of his personal and professional journey.
