Having focused heavily on several industries, including health services, medical devices, telecommunications, and, among others, manufacturing and distribution, his success has garnered him access to private equity and venture groups throughout the nation, including investment banking and merger and acquisition transactions for over 40 different companies valued at over $18.5 billion.
Commenda Capital is recognized as a merchant bank created due to a merger between Batten Capital and Runningen Associates LLC. As the managing partner of Runningen Associates, Mr. Runningen oversaw the investment bank, which originated nationwide corporate advisory, mergers and acquisitions, strategic planning, and investment banking transactions for middle-market companies. His company subsequently partnered with Batten Group, launching Commenda Capital LLC in 2011 to focus on strategic capital and advisory services to already established and growing companies.
During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Runningen held roles with Merrill Lynch, QualiCorp. Inc., and several other respected organizations. He also served as a senior health care securities analyst at Morgan-Keegan & Company and The Robinson Humphrey Company, a division of Smith Barney. Mr. Runningen subsequently garnered expertise as a venture capitalist at Cordova Ventures, managing the $250 million venture capital company's health care services, medical device, and information technology portfolio. He also earned the role of senior vice president of corporate communications at the publicly traded company WebMD. Moreover, Mr. Runningen found success as the founder of RWB Management Group. Adding to his primary career endeavors, he served instrumental roles on over a dozen corporate boards.
Mr. Runningen received a Bachelor of Arts from Luther College in Iowa in 1975 and a Master of Business Administration from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1977. Well-qualified in his industry, he earned credentials through the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Runningen is also a professional member of FINRA.
