GRAND RAPIDS, OH, September 19, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- E. Dorinda Shelley, MD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. In 1997 Dr. Shelley was named a clinical professor of dermatology at The University of Toledo where she had served students enrolled in the College of Medicine and Life Sciences since joining the faculty in 1983 at the rank of professor and chief of the Dermatology Division at the former Medical College of Ohio. She accumulated academic experience at Stanford University as an assistant professor (1971-1974), and then the University of Illinois at Chicago as an assistant professor (1974-1975), and associate professor (1975-1978). Dr. Shelley served as full professor and chair of the Dermatology Department at the Peoria School of Medicine, now the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (1978-1983).
Dr. Shelley earned a BA degree at Mount Holyoke College (1962) before completing an MD at the University of Missouri (1966). After completing an internship at St. Luke's Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, she became a resident in dermatology at the University of Missouri, Columbia (1967-1970), and then a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University (1970). In 1971 she was certified by the American Board of Dermatology.
Contributions to scholarly journals support Dr. Shelley's reputation as a prolific researcher and writer. Selected book publications with her husband include "A Century of International Dermatological Congresses (1992), "Shelley's 77 Skins" (2002), "Advanced Dermatologic Therapy II" (2001) and "Consultations in Dermatology" (2006); she also co-authored "Advanced Dermatologic Therapy" (1986) and co-edited "Adolescent Dermatology" (1978). As a career highlight, Dr. Shelley points to the collaboration with her late dermatologist husband, Dr. Walter B. Shelley, in publishing a professional and personal diary monthly for 5 years (1990-1995), "Portrait of a Practice," for the medical journal, Cutis.
After retirement, Dr. Shelley has pursued a career as a children's book author, writing 3 Helium books including "The Helium Table" (2010), "The Helium Egg" (2010), "Helium Heels" (2012) and "Dasher and the Sleigh Train" (2019). She also co-authored "Toronto and Ted" (2016). Her most recent story is "Max and the Bouncy House" (2023). Most of her children's books are available in French and Spanish translations.
