With more than three decades of excellence in counseling for addiction and trauma, Mr. Lanzone has earned distinction as an addiction and trauma specialist, psychotherapist, interventionist, clinical supervision consultant and clinical social worker for his private practice, Joseph Lanzone, LCSWR, Recovery Coach. Since 1987, he has focused his efforts on providing mental health and addiction counseling services for numerous patients, including those with depression, anxiety, ADHD and other conditions. He added recovery coach services to his practice in 2020 and volunteers these services for Reps for Responders. Additionally, he is a valued member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, the National Center for Crisis Management, the National Association of Social Workers and the American Psychological Association.
While developing his private practice, Mr. Lanzone began his career as an assistant director and counselor for the Town of Clarkstown Counseling Center in 1981 and was also a school community counselor for Clarkstown South High School from 1988 until 1990. He subsequently became the director and clinical supervisor for the Town of Ramapo Youth Counseling Services and was in this role until 2004, earning a Town Recognition for his dedicated work in the community. Additionally, he had lent his expertise as an adjunct professor in the clinical master's program for Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service from 2001 until 2020.
Among his professional accomplishments, he is proud to have been an advocate with his clinical training, practice experience and professional networks. He is grateful he has had the opportunity to help many individuals throughout his career, including providing community referrals and assisting patients with admittance to inpatient treatment.
To prepare for his career in mental health and social work, Mr. Lanzone earned an associate degree from Genesee Community College in 1969 and a Bachelor of Arts in secondary education and American literature from SUNY Fredonia in 1971. Following these achievements, he attained a Master of Social Work from the Hunter College Graduate School of Social Work in 1987. Well-qualified in his field, he is a licensed clinical social worker, recovery coach and universal life minister with the NYS Office of Professionals, Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery and Universal Life Church, respectively.
Within the coming years, Mr. Lanzone intends to maintain his physical, mental and spiritual health while continuing his work, employing as many modalities for psychotherapy as possible to best care for his patients. He also plans to transition his practice to more spiritually-based methods, which he predicts will be more helpful for himself as well as his patients.
