Following a successful career in higher education administration, Mr. Amparado remains active as a communications company executive as the owner and founder of KDA Communications since 1985. As a leader in technical and business writing, systems analysis, and data processing, he provides his expertise to the special education projects panel of the New York City Board of Education, New York University (NYU) Financial Systems Management, and several other organizations in education and other sectors.
Having recently been named the president emeritus of the Federation Board of Governors at State University (SUNY) Empire State University in 2022, Mr. Amparado is notably a former board member and president. Among other significant roles, he was a consultant for New York University Financial Systems Management from 1996 to 1998 and subsequently an assistant director at the university between 1999 and 2017. Mr. Amparado also garnered expertise as a programmer, analyst, and systems analyst for several banks and as a manager for the Center for Computing Activity at Columbia University.
As a prominent member of his community, Mr. Amparado has served as a consultant for the Siloam Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn since 1988 and as a member of the board of advisors for the Shirley Chrisholm for Equity Studies, which is part of SUNY Empire State College, since 2020. Most notably, he established the Alzheimer's Support Caregivers Group at NYU after the passing of his mother to the disease. Mr. Amparado served as its group facilitator on the Washington Square campus during lunch hours; since the pandemic, the group has been meeting via Zoom. He started the group years after conducting volunteer speaking engagements, presentations, and training sessions for Caring Kind and its predecessor, the Alzheimer's Association. Mr. Amparado plans to remain active in this capacity for as long as possible.
Mr. Amparadao proudly established a scholarship at SUNY in 2000 in his parents' names focusing on African American male students. He has established two other scholarships focused on African American students both male and female since then.
He also helped to launch a project in 2011 at Empire State University with Faculty Advisor Dr. David A. Fullard focused on African American male dropouts called the Black Male Initiative. The program is still in existence and statistics have exceeded expectations. The program's primary purpose is to promote college degrees for black and Latino students since they continue to be the most underserved population. The program remains in existence and statistics have exceeded expectations.
Mr. Amparado graduated from SUNY Empire State College with a Bachelor of Science with honors. He has since remained active in his professional community as a member of the American Marketing Association, the Marketing Research Association, the International Association of Business Communicators, the American Management Association, and several other related organizations. Mr. Amparado is also recognized as a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication.
