Since starting this role in 2004, he has conducted considerable research in the area of economic development, authoring numerous works on topics such as place-making, land use policy, food security, conflicts and shocks, resilience, and food industry development. Along with other scholars, Dr. Adelaja has authored a plethora of publications, including "Effects of Conflict on Agriculture," "Armed Conflicts and Food Insecurity," "Shocks, Resilience and Structural Transformation in Sub-Saharan Africa," "Assessing Off-Shore Wind Potential" and "Time‐to‐completion for mergers and acquisitions in the food and agribusiness industry." In addition to his work in research, Dr. Adelaja taught a variety of classes.
During the early stages of his career, Dr. Adelaja gained valuable expertise in education with Rutgers University. Over the course of 18 years, he served as a professor, department chair, director of the EcoPolicy Center and the Food Policy Institute, Cook College dean of research, dean of Cook College, executive director of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station, and executive dean of agriculture and natural resources. Outside of his work, he contributes to society as Chairman of Chapel Hill Denham Ltd., Student Accomod8 Ltd., and the Nigerian Presidential Initiative for the Northeast, and to his community through United Way Worldwide. Dr. Adelaja is a member of the honor society in economics (Omicron Delta Epsilon) and the honor society in agriculture (Gamma Sigma Delta).
An expert in his field, Dr. Adelaja holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Mechanization from Pennsylvania State University (PSU). Subsequently, he earned a master's degree in agricultural economics, a master's degree in economics, and a PhD in economics from West Virginia University (WVU). In light of his outstanding body of work, he has been recognized for outstanding contributions to economic development and energy policy by Governor Jennifer Granholm and Lt. Governor John Cherry. In his career, Dr. Adelaja has been honored with the Distinguished Faculty Award by Michigan State University, Presidential Award for Distinguished Public Service by Rutgers University, Person of the Year Award by the National Prepared Food Association, Outstanding Public Service Through Economics Award by the Northeast Agricultural and Resource Economics Association, and several Excellence in Research and Outreach Awards. He also received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Chambers College of Business and Economics at WVU and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the College of Agriculture at PSU.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Adelaja is most proud of his work in agricultural and land use policy which led to the adoption of several policies. The cornerstone of his success lies in his dedication to making a positive impact for future generations and his strong family values. Looking toward the future, Dr. Adelaja aims to re-examine existing theories of development and make more significant advancements in this area.
