Established by him and a group of local investors in 2019, the organization provides dense, high-quality dry ice to a local customer base in various industries, including the biotech, pharmaceutical, food, manufacturing, and beverage markets that require their services. Mr. Gruber is a former independent management consultant who retired from his practice in 2016. He also maintained Neal J. Gruber, M.E., P.E., D.CE Consulting Services from 2014 to 2016, specializing in integrated natural resources management. Previously, Mr. Gruber worked for several notable organizations as a civil engineer, including Black & Veatch as a senior water resources engineer, MicroPact Engineering as a principal civil engineer, and Michael Baker Corporation as a senior water resources engineer. Earlier in his career, he owned and served as the principal engineer of Neal J. Gruber, PE, providing hydrology, hydraulics and water resources engineering services, and Hydromet Data Services Inc., specializing in designing, constructing, and maintaining real-time data collection networks for hydrologic and meteorologic data.
Grateful for his accomplishments working with domestic and international clients, Mr. Gruber has notably contributed to the in-depth design, data collection, simulation, and analysis of hydrologic, hydraulic, environmental, and other projects and systems operations. Additionally, Mr. Gruber has had the opportunity to participate as an expert witness in U.S. district and state Courts.
Active in his civic community, Mr. Gruber has volunteered his time to the Rock Creek Coalition from 2016-2019, providing stream flow and water quality sampling for Token Creek, Dane County, WI. He has also volunteered with the Citizen Climate Lobby since 2016 and the Water Sentinels as a planning and policy committee member since 2014-2019. Additionally, Mr. Gruber has served on the Madison Area Technical College's advisory committee on its renewable energy program and has donated to National Public Radio and National Public Television. He continues to be active in the Wisconsin Academy of Science, Arts, and Letters.

Highly educated, Mr. Gruber received a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1972, a Master of Engineering in Coastal and Ocean Engineering from the University of Florida in 1973, a postmaster's study in hydraulics, coastal and civil engineering from 1975 to 1976 at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario Canada. Additionally, he completed coursework toward a Ph.D. in Environmental and Resource Engineering from the State University of New York from 1978-1987. Mr. Gruber was a licensed Professional Civil Engineer for over 40 years, (now retired) and held a Floodplain Manager Certification through the Association of State Floodplain Managers Inc (also retired). He was active in his professional community as a member and former committee chair in the Hydrology Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers and was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers.
