Mr. Kanell has been prosecuting juvenile, criminal, and civil cases since 1987. He has also been leveraging his time and expertise as Minersville Town Attorney and Milford City attorney since 1980, prosecuting and defending claims on behalf of both municipalities. Additionally, Mr. Kanell has found success representing the Elk Meadows Special Service District in the Beaver Mountains since 1995 and the Milford Area Health Care Service District #3 since 2000.
Mr. Kanell has enjoyed an honorable career helping individuals turn their lives around and become law abiding citizens. Despite the tremendous workload, he has managed to handle all his cases successfully, despite how difficult they can sometimes be. Mr. Kanell formerly served as the Beaver County attorney from 1987 to 2002. He also garnered recognition as a public defender. During an earlier stage of his career, he enjoyed working for Snelgrove's Ice Cream, a local favorite that won multiple First Place Awards at state fair competitions.
A leader in his community, Mr. Kanell served on the board of trustees for the Beaver Area Healthcare Foundation. He was active with the Beaver Babe Ruth Little League Baseball Association as a past president, vice president, and former coach. Moreover, as an Eagle Scout Mr. Kanell spent many years with the local Boy Scouts of America, helping several boys, including his four sons, earn the title of Eagle Scout.
To prepare for his career, Mr. Kanell earned a Bachelor of Science in business marketing and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Utah in 1976 and 1979, respectively. He previously served on the board of directors of the Southern Utah Bar Association.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Kanell is most proud of his passion for his specialty and having a successful practice despite his humble headquarters. Reflecting on a long career, he attributes much of his success to his observance of the Law of the Harvest and to his ability to make good choices. In his personal life, Mr. Kanell has been married to his wife, Melissa, for over 45 years and they are the parents of nine children.
