A Certified Public Funds Investment Manager with more than three decades of excellence in accounting and financial management, Ms. Hornback has earned distinction as the city treasurer for the City of Hawthorne, California. As the first elected African-American woman and first woman to be elected to her position as city treasurer, since 2023 she has focused her efforts on managing the city finances and investments, including $50 million worth of city funds. Additionally, she has been an accountant with Fidelity Mortgage Lenders, Inc. since 2021 and has provided independent income tax preparation services since 1995, specializing in full cycle accounting.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Hornback began her career as an accounting assistant for Executive Parking in 1995 and became the director of finance for SBCC in 1998. Following this period, she served as the vice president of accounting for Tiger Federal Credit Union (now the Tigers Community Credit Union) in 2006 and was an Accountant for Executive Parking in 2007. In 2014, she functioned in a similar capacity for Delica North America LLC. While engaging in these roles, she also was an ELD assistant specializing in children with autism for the Los Angeles Unified School District from 2010 until 2015 and an ELD assistant for the Wiseburn Unified School District from 2014 until 2020. She continues to volunteer with local schools and is a member of the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and Canada, Government Investment Officers Association, and California Municipal Treasurers Association.
To prepare for her professional journey, Ms. Hornback earned an associate's degree in pharmacology from Everest University in 2009. She also completed coursework at Grambling State University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She received an annual education excellence award by SW SELPA Community Advisory Committee for her work with children with autism and has been recognized and received several awards for volunteering in the community. Within the coming years, Ms. Hornback intends to increase revenue for the City of Hawthorne by making the city more appealing and attractive to visitors. She plans to also offer more opportunities and activities, such as promoting professional sports for the area along with other community development initiatives.
