Dr. Garbis also serves as an instructor for the Precision Proteomics Module of the Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine at Pasadena, California.
Over the years, Dr. Garbis honed his expertise in research, education, and chemistry as the Director of the Proteome Exploration Laboratory and principal investigator at Caltech, Division of Biology and Biological Engineering, as a Faculty member and investigator at the Biomedical Research Foundation at the Academy of Athens, a research associate at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an analytical chemist for NOW Foods, Inc.'s quality control and quality assurance department. During the early stages of his career, he gained valuable expertise in the field with the University of Illinois where he conducted fundamental and applied mass spectrometry studies for the analysis of biological materials and Zellweger Analytics where he helped develop remote sensitive infrared spectroscopy technologies for the monitoring of gaseous pollutants in open atmospheres. Due to his outstanding breadth of knowledge, Dr. Garbis obtained a patent for mass spectrometry sample processing methods, chromatography devices, and data analysis techniques for biomarker analysis.
An expert in his field, Dr. Garbis earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (certified by the American Chemical Society) from the University of Illinois, Chicago. He earned his PhD in Pharmacology, Molecular and Biochemical Toxicology track from the University of Illinois at Chicago's Graduate College. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Garbis aligns himself with the American Society for Mass Spectrometry and the American Chemical Society.
Outside of his work, Dr. Garbis contributes to those less fortunate as a member of the executive leadership team at the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in developing a breakthrough blood-testing technology that can detect diseases at an early stage. The cornerstone of his success lies with his colleagues and graduate and postgraduate students, as well as his co-founder and chief scientific officer, Dr. Antigoni Manousopoulou.
