Supported by more than 40 years of industry experience, Mr. Sablan has succeeded in various management and engineering-related roles for several aerospace, semiconductor material and equipment, and telecommunications companies. Having joined STRAC Institute (formerly Veterans Assembled Electronics) as an executive vice president of technology in 2010, he was subsequently named as the training director from 2014 to 2016 and to principal instructor as part of the succession plan he authored. Mr. Sablan began his career in the field as a manufacturing engineer for Texas Instruments in Sherman, Texas, in 1979. Over the next decade, he served as a quality engineer and quality manager for several California-based companies. From 1988 to 2000, he gained experience as a director of quality for several other organizations, including Sumitomo SITIX, LG Epitaxy and Sigen. Mr. Sablan also had the opportunity to serve as the director of operations for netMercury and as the vice president of operations at Global Drug Testing Labs. Shortly before accepting a position at the STRAC Institute, he was a master IPC instructor for Blackfox Training in Longmont, Colorado, from 2011 to 2013. During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Sablan also taught Statistical Quality Control and Introduction to Electronic Manufacturing as an instructor at Foothill-De Anza Community College from 1983 to 1994.
Throughout his career, Mr. Sablan has become proficient in operations and quality systems. He is also an expert in developing and implementing ISO9000 quality systems.
Mr. Sablan graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in engineering. He subsequently served in the U.S. Army, serving to the rank of captain between 1974 and 1979, followed by over a decade in the U.S. Army Reserves between 1979 and 1990, achieving the rank of major. While in the reserves, Mr. Sablan earned an Associate of Arts in quality assurance from Foothill-De Anza Community College in 1983. He also completed additional coursework in quality assurance at San Jose State University in 1989. Well-qualified in his industry, Mr. Sablan has maintained credentials as a master IPC instructor through the IPC International since 2011 and as a certified administrator through the Electronic Technician Associations International since 2012.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Sablan was a member of the American Society for Quality, the Electronics Technicians Association International, and IPC International. Recognized for his devotion to his country, Mr. Sablan was decorated with a Parachutist Badge and Commendation Medal by the U.S. Army.
