Mr. Raffaeli has over 34 years of experience with major global corporations, most recently as Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Thomson Reuters, where from 1998 to 2011, he worked with senior management and the Board of Directors to develop human capital policies in support of the corporation's business strategies. Mr. Raffaeli was also appointed to the corporation's Disclosure Committee and chaired its Global Retirement Committee, which oversaw the administration and investment of almost $5 billion of employee and company assets.
Previously, Mr. Raffaeli was Managing Director of Human Resources at UBS (1995-1998), Senior Operating Officer of Human Resources at Salomon Brothers (1990-1995) and Corporate General Manager of Industrial Relations at Continental Can Company (1976-1990). He has been cited in national publications and appeared in a segment on CNBC that featured his successful implementation of the first large-scale, on-site managed health care network in the United States while at Salomon Brothers. During his career, he was on the Board of Advisors of the Journal of Health Care Benefits, a Contributing Editor of Managing Employee Health Benefits magazine and a Trustee of the Washington, DC think tank, the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI). Mr. Raffaeli also published several health-oriented articles.
Between 2010 and 2020, Mr. Raffaeli was a Visiting Lecturer at two British universities, St. Mary's University and the University of Chester. Via his affiliation with the Mountbatten Internship Programme, he taught business courses to hundreds of international post-graduate students in the United States and in Thailand. He was an MBA Dissertation Supervisor, a Career School instructor in the State of New York and served on the Board of Directors of the University of Business and International Studies in Geneva, Switzerland.
Since 2011, Mr. Raffaeli has been the co-owner and President of C3 Investment Holdings, LLC, which has vineyard, winemaking and real estate investments in Argentina, as well as a whisky operation in Scotland. And through his subsidiary company, National Pastime Productions, LLC, Mr. Raffaeli produced a stage play, 'A Lucky Life', about baseball great Lou Gehrig and his heroic battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In November 2020, Mr. Raffaeli's Mendoza, Argentina wine operation, ARTINA®, was named 'Argentina Barrel Aged Winery of the Year' by the New York International Wine Competition, granting Double Gold (96 pts), Gold (94 pts) and Silver (92 pts) Medals to the three wines he entered into the competition. And the New York International Spirits Competition named his 25-year-old Scotch the 'Blended Scotch Whisky of the Year' in 2021 and granted Gold Medals to all three of his Scotch entries. In September 2020, he was quoted in the New York Times article: "Dream Homes for Golfers and Wine Lovers", which featured Algodon Wine Estates in San Rafael, Mendoza Province, Argentina.
For the last three decades, Mr. Raffaeli has immersed himself in numerous charitable endeavors. He has served on nine non-profit Boards of Directors, accumulating over 90 years of aggregate service. His commitment to helping others has been recognized, having received the 'Distinguished Service Award' from King School (1999); admitted into the '1865 Society' at King School for cumulative gifts in excess of $250,000 (2015); named a 'Leader of the Movement' by buildOn (2016) and honored with the 'American Hero Award' by the National Kidney Registry for his non-directed kidney donation (2017). Currently, Mr. Raffaeli serves on the Board of Directors of the Mountbatten Internship Programme (Vice Chair). Previously, he served on the Boards of buildOn (Governance Committee Chair), American International Accreditation Association (Vice Chair), the English-Speaking Union of the United States (Vice Chair), Literacy Volunteer& Stamford/Greenwich (Board Chair), the Child Guidance Center of Southwestern Connecticut (Board Chair), King School (Board Chair), the Stamford Hospital Foundation and the Stamford Symphony Orchestra. He participated on the Parent Committees of New York University, St. Lawrence University and Kent School. And to facilitate 'breaking the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and low expectations', Mr. Raffaeli and his family fully funded five buildOn schoolhouses in Africa, Nepal, Nicaragua and Haiti. When he and his family traveled to Mali, Africa in 2002 to participate in the construction of their initial schoolhouse, they were the first family unit to fund a buildOn school, inspiring numerous similar acts by others. Upon his 2022 retirement from the buildOn Board of Directors after 18 years of service, a school in Mali, Africa was dedicated in honor of him and his family.
At its 239th annual meeting, Mr. Raffaeli was inducted into the Society of the Cincinnati, the nation's oldest patriotic organization, by virtue of his 6th great grandfather, Captain John Hughes, who was an officer and original member when the Society was founded in 1783. George Washington was the Society's first President General. Mr. Raffaeli is also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution via the Revolutionary War service of six of his grandfathers.
Mr. Raffaeli was born in Washington, Pennsylvania and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from Waynesburg College and a Master of Science in Industrial Relations from West Virginia University.
