FAYETTEVILLE, AR, October 17, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Rachel L. Frederiksen has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Frederiksen is the Teaching Assistant Professor of Bassoon at the University of Arkansas where she educates and mentors a large studio of instrumentalists. She also teaches private bassoon lessons, serves as the social media coordinator for the WooPig Bassooie pages, and works with the university's Community Music School (CMS) coordinator of all CMS events, including advertising. In addition, she is the lead project manager for Music75. This project was started in 2018 but was derailed due to the pandemic. Now its goal is for the department to reach the other 24/75 counties in the state of Arkansas by the end of this academic year.
Impressive teaching experience is foundational to Dr. Frederiksen's current faculty appointment. She taught at the rank of Lecturer for the University of Alabama from Spring 2022-2023 and as an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 2021-2022. She eagerly identifies additional opportunities to share her knowledge and artistry through masterclass and conference presentations.
Creative pursuits and research are critical components of Dr. Frederiksen's professional profile. She has remained active as a freelance performer and educator, teaching bassoonists from a wide age range in a private studio as well as through a signature YouTube channel. She is also the preeminent scholarly voice in the investigation of the life and works of German composer Emilie Mayer, whose violin compositions Dr. Frederiksen has expertly transcribed for her instrument; notably, she is humbled to play a role in further disseminating the artistic output of this prolific but rather obscure composer.
Exceptional academic accomplishments also define Dr. Frederiksen's presence in academia. She pursued a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor of Music Performance at Texas Lutheran University, which she completed in 2013, and earned a Mastre of Music and a Master of Music Education from Baylor University in 2017. Dr. Frederiksen is particularly proud to have finished a terminal degree in her field as well and holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in performance from Michigan State University, where she was recognized as a fellow of the Residential College of Arts and Humanities in 2020.
Dr. Frederiksen takes pride in her unwavering dedication to her craft, and she has developed a distinct reputation as both a soloist and collaborator through featured guest performances in chamber and symphonic ensembles, including the 2022 Puerto Rico Center for Collaborative Piano Festival the Memphis International Prizm Chamber Ensemble Festival. Dr. Frederiksen was also named principal bassoonist of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra for the 2022-2023 season and was the second bassoonist with Symphony of the Hills for the 2021-2022 season. She served as a co-coordinator for the social media team and served on the competition committee for the 2022 Meg Quigley Bassoon Symposium.
Dr. Frederiksen maintains critical memberships in several key organizations, including the Texas Music Educators Association and the International Double Reed Society. She is also honored to be a life member of the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Fraternity after being inducted in 2017. Dr. Frederiksen attributes her triumphs to the encouragement and inspiration of former teachers and current mentors, whose productive, positive examples have motivated her to persist through the obstacles inherent to engaging in a career in the arts.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Frederiksen remains enthusiastic about fresh creative academic challenges, and she aims to pursue a series of promotions in rank to achieve tenure. She is also planning to release a comprehensive recording to showcase her unique talents and to publish in peer-reviewed trade journals on diverse subjects including reed-making, pedagogy, and the phenomenon of performer injury and recovery.
