Prior to his current role, Mr. Johnson held positions in financial analysis and accounting for GE Aircraft Engines and served as vice president, managing director and national executive for the company starting in 1983. He also was the general manager of the global field service engineering team and global aviation services, becoming the vice president and general manager of global repair and overhaul operations for AlliedSignal Electronic and Avionics Systems in 1994. He was key to their acquisition of Honeywell.
Following this time, Mr. Johnson worked as the chief executive officer for Honeywell Aerospace from 1998 until he retired from the role in 2005, becoming the chief executive officer of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) Ltd in 2005 for three years. Although he was invited by President Bush become the Secretary of the United States Navy, he opted to remain in the civilian life. He continued his career as a board member for Phelps Dodge International, Ariba, Inc., Roper Industries and Spirit Airlines, Inc. until taking a role as the chairman of the board for Beechcraft in 2013. He also was the chairman of the board for Honeywell Aerospace and for Spirit AeroSystems Holdings from 2005 until 2023.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Johnson was inducted to the Sigma Chi International Hall of Fame, the Singapore Business Hall of Fame and the Zanesville Ohio Hall of Fame. He was also named Executive of the Year by Miami University and the Farmer School of Business in 2007. Added to these, he co-authored "Developing Global Leaders: A Guide to Managing Effectively in Unfamiliar Places," which was published with Palgrave Macmillan in 2012. Well-qualified in his field, he is a Lean Six Sigma black belt. Within the coming years, Mr. Johnson intends to continue his career, potentially retiring in the next decade.
