With five decades of expertise in the field of financial services to his credit, Mr. Tabak has earned distinction through his work in economic development, wealth management and financial planning. Beginning his career in 1974 as an economic development planner, where he was the co-publisher of two economic development studies for the West Michigan Regional Planning Commission. After studying at the University of Hawaii, Mr. Tabak later completed a Master of Arts in educational leadership and administration from the University of Michigan in 1982.
Notably, his thesis on the United States federal budget as a reflection of national values and culture brought him into collaboration with the White House during the early years of the Reagan Administration, and he interned with the Office of Management and Budget from 1981 until 1982. Following this period, he went on to serve as a professor of finance at the University of Texas from 1987 until 1993, during which time he taught courses on estate planning and wealth management.
He became a financial adviser at Ameriprise Financial Services LLC in 1984. He has since gone on to build a loyal clientele through his specialty in advising and supporting small businesses at every stage of growth. He was recognized by American Express in 2001 as a Business Financial Advisor, having demonstrated expertise in meeting the financial planning needs of small business owners. Duty and service are essential elements to Mr. Tabak. A long-term member of National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, his ancestors raised funds for the American Revolution. Mr. Tabak's own father, Michael Tabak, was wounded at the Battle of Guadalcanal, for which he earned a Purple Heart.
Prior to his accomplishments in the financial sector, Mr. Tabak was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, where he served from 1968 to 1969. His facility with languages and previous experience with the Peace Corps in Nepal resulted in his assignment as a language and intelligence specialist, which called on him to collaborate with civilians at command headquarters. In time, he began teaching English to nearby villagers and soon established a vocational training center, where he assisted in the education of hundreds in mechanical engineering, food service and carpentry.
Other civic endeavors to his credit include his active status as a blood donor, his missionary work in Guatemala in 2014 and his past roles as president of the Montessori school system and the Valley Land Fund. Furthermore, Mr. Tabak is the founder of The Giving Tree Fund, a nonprofit organization established in 2022 to support veterans and local charities. He has served as a member of The Children's Home, the McAllen Parks & Recreation Department, the Arthritis Society, and the Rio Grande Valley American Red Cross South Texas Chapter.
As a commitment to his field, Mr. Tabak has maintained his affiliation with the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils (NAIPC) since 1989. He currently serves as the Director of Programs for the Rio Grande Estate Planning Council, where he invites leaders and experts from the Federal Reserve, the IRS, the Social Security Administration, and other notable estate planning professionals to speak before the Council during their monthly dinner meeting.
In accounting for his success, Mr. Tabak credits his passion for his profession, as well as his zeal for encouraging, enabling, and empowering clients to succeed. Among his most cherished accomplishments, he is particularly proud of those he has trained, many of whom have gone on to achieve outstanding success. In the past, Mr. Tabak aspired to become an Independent Wealth Consultant and has now selected LPL Financial as his Independent Broker Dealer.
