After earning an Associate of Arts in business and marketing from Dodge City Community College, Mr. Spangler expanded upon his professional knowledge by earning a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Marketing from Fort Hays State University. In 1997, he began his professional career as an account manager for American Fidelity Assurance Company. Subsequently, Mr. Spangler became the Kansas state manager for the organization before honing his skills as a regional operations manager and the national director of technology.
Backed by his considerable expertise with American Fidelity Assurance, Mr. Spangler joined the Kansas Association of School Boards as the director of risk management and assistant executive director in 2016. In 2021, KASB formed a wholly owned subsidiary for all of the associations insurance and consulting programs, Rod was named Chief Executive Officer of Kansas Board Solutions, Inc. (KBS) where he remains today.
As the CEO of Kansas Board Solutions, Mr. Spangler manages their growth in niche markets and creates and sustains brand awareness. He oversees all programs they offer to clients, negotiates contracts with carriers and brokers, and reports to a seven-member board to keep them informed of ongoing company developments. Outside of his work, he contributes to his community by serving as Vice President of the USD 450 Education Foundation Board, where he helps raise funds for the local school community. Previously, he was an active volunteer serving meals for the Topeka Rescue Mission.
