A native of Brazil, Dr. Silva Alvarenga was raised in an institution for needy children named "Lar das Meninas," in the city of Americana, in Brazil, where her devotion to studying touched everyone around her and led her to receive a sponsorship from the Department of Education of Americana to pursue medical school.
Attending the Faculdade de Medicina de Jundiaí, she graduated with a Doctor of Medicine in 2001, specializing in general and coloproctology. While she obtained a strong clinical background, she sought more substantial endeavors in the research field. The Clinical Research fellowship at Cleveland Clinic Florida (CCF) was completely aligned with her desire for further academic refinement. She decided to travel to the U.S. and spent the next few years under the supervision of Dr. Steven D. Wexner, ultimately choosing to remain in the U.S.
Dr. Silva Alvarenga successfully retrained in General Surgery and completed an AGME-accredited colorectal surgery fellowship in 2020.
Dr. Silva Alvarenga remains active in her field as a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and the Brazilian Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
