Prior to obtaining her current role, she worked as the director of food safety for Sara Lee and as the corporate director of quality assurance for Luigino's Inc.
During the early stages of her career, Ms. Swaim gained valuable expertise in the field as the quality assurance manager of Campbell Soup Company's Vlasic Foods Condiments and Sauces Division and in the same role with Peter Eckrich & Sons. An expert in her field, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Mercyhurst University in 1977. Subsequently, Ms. Swaim expanded upon her professional knowledge by earning a JD from Western Michigan University's Thomas Cooley Law School and being admitted to practice through the District of Columbia Bar Association.

She and a colleague gathered all of the necessary information together and provided it to the government, who in turn removed the suspension. The cornerstone of her success lies in her mother, who always encouraged her to do the best she could and take advantage of everything that came along. Looking ahead, Ms. Swaim intends to retire, utilize her expertise as a consultant, and volunteer her time in the community.
