Mr. Lempke began his second career as a professional photographer in 1996, three years after retiring from thirty-one years in the United States Army. As the manager of the commercial section at Sisson Studios, Inc. in Springfield, Virginia, he has achieved numerous significant accomplishments which include six published pictorial books, architectural photography on covers of prominent magazines, 750 hours in helicopters conducting aerial photography and documenting hundreds of buildings during their construction phases. This was done in the Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland metropolitan areas.
As a professional, he specialized in aerial, architectural, construction progress and commercial photography. Mr. Lempke derived a tremendous sense of enjoyment and honor from his work. His most noteworthy contribution was photographing the National Museum of the United States Army at Fort Belvoir from 2017 to 2021 for the Army Historical Foundation. Afterward, Mr. Lempke partnered with the AHF to publish the pictorial book the "National Museum of the United States Army" to commemorate the building and opening of the Museum. For this achievement he was notably recognized with one star and inclusion into and on the Circles of Distinction wall in the Lobby of the Museum. Other notable projects include the Amazon HQ2 headquarters, Terminal C at Reagon National Airport, the Capital One Center and the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Northern Virginia. He photographed five years of construction of The WHARF and the construction of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington DC. Most impressive, he photographed the building of the MGM National Harbor facility and the Hatfield building at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Maryland.
Among other professional accomplishments, Mr. Lempke established the "TRIBUTE 4 foundation" in 2008, which was instrumental in his photographing and publishing numerous pictorial books. That year he published "TRIBUTE, A Pictorial of the National World War II Memorial," which won the 2009 IPPY Gold Medal award as the best "Gift, Specialty and Holiday" Book of the Year. It was notably endorsed by Senator Bob Dole, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Ambassador F. Hayden Williams, FED EX's CEO Fred Smith, actor Tom Hanks, Tom Brokaw and the Memorial's architect Fredrich St Florian. Lempke started in 1997, with his first book titled "Reflections," about his hometown in Kewanee, Illinois. He subsequently published "REMEMBRANCE, A Journey Through the Pentagon Memorial," in 2015. Copies were distributed to the families of the 184 victims of the 9/11 tragedy at the Pentagon. Additionally, he photographed and published "The Success of MGM National Harbor" in 2017. In 2021, Mr. Lempke released "THAT MOMENT," documenting his 25 years in photography, including 16 categories of subject matter on aerial and architectural photography, people, portraits, nature, cars, boats and planes.
