He began volunteering in May 2019 and was presented the opportunity to work part-time for the organization. This experience is what motivated Mr. Lewis to pursue catering on a full-time basis ultimately.
Mr. Lewis formerly worked as a line chef for Side by Side Restaurant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He continued on to work for Walt Disney World in Kissimmee, Florida at Artist Point & Sanaa, and also the renowned Luma Restaurant in Winter Park and The Osprey in Baldwin Park. Before entering the culinary world, he succeeded in merchandising and management in the retail sector with companies like Victoria's Secret and Hugo Boss. His achievements included co-producing and styling fashion shows for Richmond Fashion Week and being a personal stylist for national celebrities.
Eager to continue progressing in his field, Mr. Lewis is a persistent individual who never gives up on his goals. Critical to his success in the hospitality sector thus far, he notes prioritizing pleasing his clients and striving to make his dishes incredibly flavorful. Looking toward future endeavors, Mr. Lewis aims to open a beachfront restaurant in Grenada, W.I.
Giving back to worthy causes is something Mr. Lewis is adamant about. Besides his work with Edible Education, he and his family continuously contribute to a scholarship they established for a local elementary school, Myrtlewood Elementary in Fosters, Alabama.
In preparation for his career, Mr. Lewis received an associate's degree in culinary arts and chef training from Virginia College in 2018. He achieved high honors on the President's List and was accepted into the Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society. He also garnered the certification of Manager ServSafe food handler in 2020. Mr. Lewis previously received credentials as a certified firefighter through Alabama Fire College in 2016.
In light of his success, Mr. Lewis was featured in a three-page article in VIE Magazine in June 2023. He was also selected by the James Beard Foundation for its legacy program, which spanned eight months.
Mr. Lewis attributes much of his success to his faith and his family. He grew up serving alongside his mother, who is also a chef, at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Jena, Alabama. He also learned alongside his father, who would cater dinners for businesses in his hometown. Watching his family cook and serve others led Mr. Lewis to explore a promising career in the restaurant business and eventually open his own catering company, Well Kept Catering.
