As the founder and chief executive officer of his for-profit company, the Family Healing Center, Mr. Carey is in the business of healing families. Located in Livingston, New Jersey, his company addresses mental health issues by offering various services to a diverse range of clients, including individuals, couples, and families. Having served more than 2,000 people since the organization's inception in 2015, Mr. Carey and his team specialize in treating anxiety-related disorders, relationship issues, parenting and personal challenges, and those with career-related difficulties. Additionally, the Center recently established a drug and alcohol clinic that offers outpatient treatment, a program that came to fruition in 2022.
Established after recognizing a need for more therapeutic resources, Mr. Carey and his business partner sought to create a mental health center that would be more beneficial to families. Looking toward future goals, he aims to launch five to seven more centers nationwide so that many more people can experience these life-changing, transformative benefits. As an African American man who successfully recovered from his journey to wellness, Mr. Carey is particularly eager to promote mental health awareness in black communities since this population typically avoids counseling. Documenting his success, Mr. Carey notably co-authored "My Father's Shoes: Healing the Father Wound" in 2018.
As part of his ongoing commitments as the Family Healing Center's chief executive officer, Mr. Carey manages a team of over 25 people that oversee the drug and alcohol facility and the private family counseling practice. He also focuses on facilitating effective communication and promoting collaboration and diversity among his team. Moreover, Mr. Carey encourages a team-based leadership approach that values compassion, appreciation, relationship, and empathy.
Mr. Carey has also found success as the chief operating officer and vice president at The K.I.N.G. Movement in South Orange, New Jersey, a social organization and national men's Christian movement that aims to help men become better human beings, among other goals. Deeply invested in his community, he is also a member of the New Jersey Black Chamber and a board member of the Lillian and Lillian Foundation and the Health Care Foundation of the Oranges. Furthermore, Mr. Carey is an Ordained Deacon at Christ Church in Rockaway, NJ.
Mr. Carey studied at Seton Hall University, graduating with an undergraduate degree in religious studies. He also garnered a Master of Science in organizational leadership in 2014 from Nyack College. Recognizing his achievements, Mr. Carey received an award for the success of The K.I.N.G. Movement. The Family Healing Center was also highlighted with an America's Top Doctor Award.
