Mr. Puetz is an experienced line technician affiliated with his alma mater, Mitchell Technical College, as the director of the Power Line Construction and Maintenance program. He has held this position and been an instructor for over 25 years. Responsible for mitigating breakdown risks, managing equipment, and ensuring that all students are well-prepared for their classes, he also provides hands-on instruction as a laboratory instructor.
Aside from his teaching duties, Mr. Puetz participates in an industry advisory board that convenes semi-annually to deliberate on the curriculum and instructional content offered by the Mitchell Technical College Power Line Construction and Maintenance. The purpose is to ensure alignment between the education provided by the program and the evolving requirements and demands of the industry.
Mr. Puetz formerly spent over five years in the field after the successful completion of his own education. During a transitional phase between jobs, he was presented with an opportunity from a former instructor to teach due to an expansion in student enrollment and a need for instructors. Despite his uncertainty, Mr. Puetz accepted with the understanding that it would be temporary. However, more than two decades later, he continues to make an impact as an educator, having taught 1,686 line workers during his tenure and draws a great sense of satisfaction in his work. Since becoming a faculty member, Mr. Puetz has witnessed remarkable progress in the program and the successes of the students following their graduation. Enrollment has also doubled, and the number of teachers has also grown from just two to five. In fact, he is honored to mention that he is now teaching a second generation of students, having previously taught some of their parents in the classroom.
Mr. Puetz credits his success and longevity at Mitchell Technical College to his traditional approach to teaching, which underscores timeless values like loyalty, work ethic, safety, and integrity. He also emphasizes the significance of initiative, which is critical in any field. As he approaches retirement, he envisions leaving a legacy. The college has already undergone expansion of its facilities, and Mr. Puetz is confident that the Power Line Construction and Maintenance Program will continue to thrive.
Through Mitchell Technical College, Mr. Puetz actively supports local blood drives and food banks. He notably graduated from the college in 1991.
As a testament to Mr. Puetz's success, the Power Line Construction and Maintenance Program was recognized with the Siemens-Aspen Community College STEM Award in 2018, which was accompanied by a $50,000 scholarship grant to benefit deserving students.
