An expert in energy storage and new non-lithium battery technologies, Mr. Spring has worked in the energy industry for more than 13 years. Having begun his career in the fossil fuel energy sector, he has gone on to spend nearly seven years in the renewable energy industry.
As associate director of business development at EnerVenue, a technology startup company that focuses on long lasting, durable, safe, recyclable, non-lithium battery solutions, Mr. Spring has made notable impact. When he joined the company eight months after its inception in 2021, Mr. Spring worked alongside the chief executive officer to map out strategy, messaging, and significant commercial traction for the company's technology. In eight months, they closed a $125-million series A funding round, one of the largest ever in the energy space, and recently established a gigafactory in Kentucky which will reach volume production by late 2025.
Mr. Spring believes that his success is based on preserving the relationships he has built over time. Before joining EnerVenue, Mr. Spring worked at German-based SMA America, a global inverter company specializing in solar and energy storage. During his four years with SMA America, Mr. Spring was responsible for managing strategic account relationships with solar and energy storage customers. Prior to his work in this capacity, he worked as a sales manager at Toshiba America Energy Systems, EthosEnergy Group PPS and Siemens TurboCare, having begun his career as a program manager at New Product Innovations in 2004.
Before embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Spring earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University in 2004. To remain aware of developments in the field, he remains active as a member of the global organization, Long Duration Energy Storage Council.
Mr. Spring, who is invited to speak at conferences and other engagements frequently, is determined to spend the next five to 10 years witnessing EnerVenue's growth and contributing his efforts toward revolutionizing the energy industry and promoting the company as a household name in energy storage.
Mr. Spring is also a passionate ultra-distance mountain trail runner. He participates in three to four races every year, ranging in distance from 50 kilometers to 50 miles. He is a three-time finisher of the Barkley Fall Classic 50k, widely touted as one of the world's toughest 50k races. Most recently Mr. Spring finished the Pikes Peak Ultra 50k, finishing in fifth place. In addition to trail running, Mr. Spring enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons.
He looks forward to spending more time volunteering for the trail community doing maintenance and supporting others in the ultra-distance racing community.
