Dr. Romero-Sardiñas also serves as choral director for the FIU University Singers, a non-auditioned group that is open to all students and members of the greater Miami community.

Driven by a lifelong passion for music and education, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas has distinguished herself as an adjunct professor at Florida International University. Having previously served as a visiting professor at the university from 2022 to 2023, her area of focus largely resides in choral music education and expounding upon the multifaceted definitions of music literacy that exist throughout the field, as well as training students how to recognize their own intrinsic abilities. Prior to her current role, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas found success across the span of 20 years as a high school choral director within the Miami-Dade County Public Schools district from 2002 until 2022.
In addition to her primary responsibilities, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas serves as choral director for the FIU University Singers, a non-auditioned group that is open to all students and members of the greater Miami community. Since beginning her involvement with the Singers, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas has overseen an expansion in the group from six people to more than 40 participants overall, unified not by ability, but by a sincere love for choral music.
A first-generation American daughter of Cuban immigrants, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas aspired to become a teacher since childhood. She was drawn to music while undertaking her undergraduate studies, during which time she sang in the University Singers and fell in love with the idea of teaching the subject to others. After attaining a Bachelor of Science from FIU in 2001, she went on to earn a master's degree in music education from Florida State University in 2006. Years later, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas returned to FIU and received a Doctor of Philosophy in curriculum and instruction in 2019.
As a commitment to her field, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas is a board member of the Florida Vocal Association, for which she has developed several programs and adjudicated various events throughout the state. She has also, at various points in her career, been a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, and the College Music Society. In recognition of her accomplishments, she was invited to present at the Florida Music Educator Association Annual conference, and conducted the Middle Superintendent Honor Choir in 2006 and the Elementary Superintendent Honor Choir in 2022. Moreover, as a high school choral director, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2009.
In accounting for her success, Dr. Romero-Sardiñas credits the love and support of her family, as well as her enduring love for music and education. Among her most cherished achievements, she is particularly proud to have earned her doctorate while serving as a high school teacher. Counting herself lucky to have secured a role that allows her to continue making music in addition to teaching philosophy and the theory of education, she aspires to soon hold a full-time position at a university.
