Leading student exchange programs to Russia in the 1990's and to the Republic of Georgia in the early 2000's, really impacted her life and understanding of different global perspectives.
AUBURN, NY, November 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Patricia V. Ryder has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Well regarded for her expertise in special education, Ms. Ryder enjoyed a fulfilling, 40-year career as a teacher in the Auburn Enlarged City School District. Over the course of her luminous career, she excelled in teaching special needs children, collaborating with fellow educators, conducting state- and district-wide assessments, devising curriculum, and developing Individualized Education Programs to meet the unique needs of children in grades nine through twelve.
Originally from Baltimore, Ms. Ryder herself attended and graduated from Auburn Schools. In high school, she discovered a passion for working with special needs individuals and decided to pursue it as a career. Prior to embarking on her professional journey, she earned an associate degree from Cayuga Community College, and then went on to obtain both a bachelor's and a master's degree in special education, from the State University of New York at Geneseo.
Though her professional career has been filled with many memorable moments, several highlights have remained with Ms. Ryder through the years. Ms. Ryder shared that leading student exchange programs to Russia in the 1990's and to the Republic of Georgia in the early 2000's, really impacted her life and understanding of different global perspectives. She also fondly recalls working with a first-grade class and her high schoolers, on an "Elf on the Shelf" project, in which they co-authored a delightful children's book, which they shared with other children. She is also deeply proud of her involvement in initiating several reading programs, including "Read To Me" and developing high interest curriculum, designed to assist students who struggled with reading comprehension.
Well regarded for her contributions to the field, Ms. Ryder has been recognized with several awards from her school district. These have included a 2022 place in the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction and a 2016 Dale Post Educator award for her work with multicultural children.
Long dedicated to civic volunteerism, Ms. Ryder has spent summers since her high school years working at Camp Columbus, a summer camping program for special needs children and adults; she was active with the program, holding a variety of roles, and had been the director for over 25 years, until it closed due to the pandemic. Additionally, she was active with her local Rotary International Youth Exchange Program, co-advisor of a special needs Boy Scout Explorer troop, served as co-president for the teacher's association, and currently volunteers as librarian for her church.
Now in her sixth year of retirement, Ms. Ryder enjoys reading and traveling: she and her husband, Gary, have visited 34 countries. She cherishes the enduring connections she maintains with over 100 former students through social media. Looking toward the future, she hopes to continue her travels and to establish a Little Free Library in front of her home, driven by her strong belief in the power of reading.
