Since 1994, he has built a prolific career as a lieutenant at the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. In this capacity, he assists the district command staff in meeting the goals and objectives of the agency, responds to calls as needed, provides daily reports, supports personnel, and supervises his team. During this time Dr. Reitz also served as a drug recognition expert and an agency coordinator for the organization's Drug Enforcement and Classification Program between 2004 and 2016.
In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Rietz has found much success as a criminal justice program adjunct professor at Hodges University since 2020. Additionally, he excels as an instructor at the School District of Manatee County as of 2013. Dr. Rietz initially began his career working as a police aide at the Clearwater Police Department from 1992 to 1994.
During his professional journey, Dr. Rietz pursued an education at Hodges University, where he obtained an Associate of Science in interdisciplinary studies in 2007, a Bachelor of Science in management in 2008, and a master's degree in public administration in 2011. He continued his academic efforts at Capella University, earning a doctorate degree in public administration in 2020. His academic achievements include acceptance into the Sigma Beta Delta Honor Society and The National Society of Leadership and Success. To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Dr. Rietz has maintained membership with several industry-related organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police and FBI/LEEDA. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, he is involved with the Manasota (FL) Mothers Against Drunk Driving's Walk Like MADD planning committee.
Well-regarded for his contributions to the field, Dr. Rietz has received multiple awards, including three Deputy of the Month awards, a Department Service Award (Emergency Services) and an Outstanding Service Award (MADD), to name only a few. Among his professional accomplishments, he is most proud of his education and involvement in leadership development, priding himself on the number of individuals that he supervised, trained, mentored, taught and nurtured who have been able to achieve their goals or be promoted to the next level. Reflecting on his achievements, he attributes much of his success to the training and tuition benefits that his organization provided him for his continued personal and professional development, and to the support of his colleagues, supervisors and family, especially his wife, who encouraged his academic and vocational journey. Looking toward the future, Dr. Rietz aspires to gradually retire from his current post and hopes to continually serve as an academy instructor, while possibly pursuing a career as a police chief or a training center director at a police academy.
