Leveraging more than a decade of excellence in education, Dr. Allen has earned distinction as the school principal for Birmingham City Schools' P.E. Let's Move program, which holds activities for students to help them learn how to collaborate with others. Since 2023, he has focused his efforts on working with third and sixth graders for the program. Additionally, he is a publisher, education consultant, author, life coach and chief executive officer with Tigers Level Up, LLC, helping train teachers on classroom management. He is also a valued member of the National Education Association.
Before his current position, Dr. Allen began his education career as a computer technology teacher for Port Gibson Middle School in 2009 and served as a teacher and school counselor for Central Texas College in 2011. Following this time, he was an enrollment representative for the University of Phoenix in 2013 and was the junior varsity head boys' basketball coach for Clayton County Public Schools in 2017. At the same time, he also was a special education teacher for Fulton County Schools until becoming the head boys' basketball coach for Jenkins High School in 2018. While in this role, he also served as a professional school counselor for the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.
Dr. Allen continued his career as the assistant principal, school improvement specialist and head girls' basketball coach for Dodge County Middle School in 2020. He subsequently worked as the principal in residence for Phalen Leadership Academies in 2022 while also serving as the principal for Smith Middle School. Among his professional accomplishments, he was nominated for a Leaders to Learn From award and for the 40 Under 40 list. As a special education teacher, he is also proud that 10 out of 12 students in his class have shown significant growth in their assessment tests. He also holds the record in Dodge County for school turnaround, successfully reducing the number of altercations, write-ups and fights by 76%.
Accounting for his success, Dr. Allen credits the strong influence of both God and his grandmother. His grandmother played a pivotal role in his life by signing him up for college, which was a significant turning point in his life, and provided him with unwavering love, inspiration and support throughout his journey. His love for basketball was also a significant factor in his life, as he found a passion for sharing the sport with children and making a positive impact on their lives as a coach.
To prepare for his professional journey, Dr. Allen earned an Associate of Arts in education from the Southwest Mississippi Community College in 2008. Following this achievement, he attained a bachelor's degree in general studies with a concentration in physical education in 2010 and a Master of Education in guidance education with a concentration in school counseling in 2012, both from Alcorn State University. He subsequently gained a Doctor of Education in educational leadership and administration from the University of Phoenix in 2019. Eminently qualified in his field, he is a certified school principal with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, the Arizona Department of Education and the Alabama Department of Education. He also holds certifications as a school counselor, special education teacher, administrator, and insurance agent. In addition, he is an published author of twelve books including "Classroom Management 101," and "How to Pass the Praxis."
Within the coming years, Dr. Allen intends to continue assisting student teachers and educators in obtaining their certifications. He also plans to work towards enhancing the management of youth, aiming for a more organized and efficient system that benefits all parties involved.
