Subsequently, he expanded upon his professional knowledge by earning a master's degree in speech communication and debate from the University of Oregon in 1981, a PhD in speech communication and debate from the University of Arizona in 1984, and a JD from Drake University Law School in 1991. Outside of his work, Dr. Tucker contributes to his community as a board member with numerous professional associations and specifically contributing to the Iowa ALS association in honor of his brother-in-law, who passed away from the disease.
In 1984, after completing his PhD, Dr. Tucker moved to Ames, Iowa to begin teaching at Iowa State University. He met his wife, Karen, and started his family in Ames. Subsequently, in 2004, Dr. Tucker ran for the Iowa House of Representatives and stayed active politically, founding the Ankeny Area Democrats, which still thrives to this day. Shortly after obtaining his law degree, Dr. Tucker founded a trial consulting group named Focus Groups for Lawyers. Building on his dual qualifications of PhD and JD. In this endeavor, he assisted trial attorneys in evaluating and understanding the value of cases. His unique take on this was that he, as an attorney, used available jury lists in the venues in which the trials were being held. In this way, he was able to reveal actual case values, rather than speculation based on the reviews of jury verdicts. He continues to use Focus Groups for Lawyers as an ongoing trial consulting concern.
