Mr. Williams has been associated with the State of Tennessee for over two decades and currently holds the title of auditor. His primary role involves auditing on behalf of people with disabilities. This includes auditing individuals directly for money they receive from the Social Security Administration and auditing agencies for funds used for programs and services for people with disabilities. Mr. Williams ensures these agencies' abide by regulatory compliance standards and has completed 35 out of 36 audits in 2023 by the month of October.
Prior to his current role as an auditor with the Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities at the State of Tennessee since 2001, Mr. Williams served as an audit investigator in 2021. Before joining the state government, he spent over a decade at Outboard Marine Corporation, where he transitioned from an accounting clerk between 1982 to 1987 to an associate engineer and then manufacturing engineer from 1987 to 2000.
Mr. Williams' academic journey began at a local community college in North Carolina, where he completed coursework before moving on to Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. He pursued coursework in engineering before earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration, majoring in accounting, between 1988 and 1993.
Throughout his career, Mr. Williams has acknowledged the pivotal role played by his mentors and colleagues in his success. While working at the Outboard Marine Corporation, he was fortunate to have a highly competent comptroller who ran a department with utmost efficiency. Under their guidance, he learned the importance of doing things the right way and acquired the necessary skills to excel in his job. As a result, Mr. Williams is able to apply his knowledge effectively and work diligently to accomplish tasks with precision.
In recognition of his professional excellence, Mr. Williams has been honored with three awards throughout his career.
Away from his professional duties, Mr. Williams lives by the motto "It's the cross," reflecting his belief that everything that happens, good or bad, is a cross. He once fell prey to a fraudulent pig butchering scheme through an app-based investment scam. Despite losing a small amount of money, he took action and exposed the fraudster, turning the matter over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Mr. Williams enjoys landscaping and carpentry in his spare time and values spending time with his wife. He also takes pleasure in reviewing and tracking the financial statements of family members and reading theology.
At 64 years old, Mr. Williams is determined to continue working until he reaches 72 years old, with a goal to maximize his retirement income fully. Although not seeking any promotions, he remains committed to performing excellently at his job and serving others.
