Much of his experience was gained through his work at ESA Biosciences, which developed the relatively new Corona Charged Aerosol Detector (CAD) for HPLC. This company was acquired by Dionex and then later Thermo Fisher Scientific. Dr. Plante traveled the world discussing the benefits of this detector over other forms of detection, and he created a novel linearization algorithm (Power Function) which creates a linear calibration curve for this inherently nonlinear detector. An expert in his field, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Chemical/Environmental Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1991. Subsequently, Dr. Plante expanded his professional knowledge by completing a PhD in Physical-Organic Chemistry at Northeastern University in 2001.
While his career has been filled with standout moments, Dr. Plante is most proud of his work in high-performance liquid chromatography, which involves separating substances to measure them using different mobile phase and stationary phase combinations and conditions. In his current role, he has combined a unique column with unique mobile phases to separate polymeric structures with unprecedented resolution.
