As director of sales, marketing and events for Park Hyatt Washington D.C., he oversees a team of 14 professionals who specialize in sales, event sales, business travel sales and event planning. As the head of the hotel's revenue-generating division, he is charged with conducting team meetings, establishing budgets, devising strategic initiatives, setting and meeting revenue targets. Mr. Salifu's leadership has been recognized with two Elite Performer Awards and two Sales Team of the Year Awards.
Mr. Salifu's foray into the hospitality field was with Ivy Hotel, a property transformed into a stylish and distinctive adult-oriented establishment through a substantial $90 million investment; Mr. Salifu played a pivotal role in its grand opening, catapulting it to becoming one of downtown San Diego's premier hotels. Since 2007, Mr. Salifu has utilized his talents for the Hyatt Corporation, holding roles with Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Los Angeles, Grant Hyatt Atlanta, Hyatt Regency Morristown, Hyatt Regency Baltimore, Park Hyatt DC, and simultaneously an integral part of several projects at the Hyatt corporate office.
Through his impressive career trajectory, Mr. Salifu has realized an innate aptitude for sales. In thinking back over his years of career growth, he notes his habit of adhering to his established routines and processes, while remaining flexible, positive, and available to support his team . He attributes his resilience and values to his upbringing in challenging circumstances and to his military training. Mr. Salifu was enlisted in the active duty service from 1999 to 2004, and served as an aviation electronics technician with the United States Navy and as a U.S. Navy Reservist until 2006.
Mr. Salifu is a dedicated and engaged contributor to the realm of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within his hotel and the broader Hyatt Organization. His involvement spans various activities, such as being inducted as a committee member on Hyatt's Commercial Services DE&I Council since 2022 and participating in recruiting efforts at regional Historical Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs). Mr. Salifu is also an active recruiter for Hyatt and attends regional career fairs such as the National Black MBA Association Career Expo; most recently hosted at the Philadelphia Convention Center. Mr. Salifu also takes part in speaking engagements and serves as an adjunct professor at historically Black colleges and other academic institutions, where he addresses DE&I issues and Hyatt's position to do its part within our communities. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Salifu earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance from San Diego State University in 2008. Outside of work, he enjoys making memories with his wife Vera of 16 years, and their daughters, Marley, Dara and Faith. In his free time, he can be found engaging in fitness activities, meditation, and spending time outdoors or taking trips with his family.
