Dr. Davenport has dedicated her pharmaceutical career at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to ensuring that medicines intended for clinical trials are safe and effective. In her roles as a Scientific Leader in Cell and Gene Therapy Product Development from 2018 to 2023, and her work on the cell process and stability enabled the launch of multiple T cell therapy clinical trials. Elizabeth's initial career roles were in Research. In 2016, as a Discovery Consultant, Elizabeth expanded GSK interaction with US innovators. In her prior roles as Assay Development Group Leader (2004 to 2015) and Cancer Biology Research Investigator (1997 to 2004), she led efforts resulting in multiple technology and project investment decisions. Notably, she led teams to embed innovative high throughput screening approaches using disease-relevant cells, cell imaging, cell assays for enzyme targets, and drug combination screens.
Before joining GSK, Dr. Davenport was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences from 1992 to 1994 where she studied organotypic cell culture. Her passion for biology began during her freshman year of high school and led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in biology from Muhlenberg College followed by a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology from Purdue University in 1991.
Dr. Davenport attributes her success to the coaches and mentors who guided her throughout her career, which inspired her to similarly invest in professional development for her colleagues. Elizabeth represented GSK as a health and wellness speaker at the 2018 Pennsylvania Conference for Women. Her interest in oncology developed during her graduate studies, fueled her desire to make a difference within the pharmaceutical industry. She received a Little Red Door Fellowship grant (1989) and has published in peer-reviewed journals.
Away from her professional responsibilities, Dr. Davenport enjoys a variety of activities, including reading, gardening, walking, kayaking, paddle boarding, playing tennis, practicing yoga and Pilates. She has served on the Board of Directors (2018 to 2021) and has been the Water Quality Committee Chair for a private community since 2016. In 2023, she was an invited keynote speaker for a water quality training school. Elizabeth is also a proud mother of five children and a grandchild.
