Outside of her primary career efforts, Ms. Flores serves as a board member for the National Homelessness Law Center and My Community's Keeper Mentor Group. She is also a member of the executive committee for the Charleston County Bar Association. As a dedicated criminal justice reform advocate, she volunteers as the State Director for South Carolina for Criminal Justice Reform. Ms. Flores is actively involved in empowering citizens to exercise their right to vote, including those impacted by the criminal justice system. She has mentored law students and offered her legal knowledge and experience while previously serving on the American Bar Association Homeless Court Advisory Committee.
Ms. Flores officially began her career as an intern and later an Assistant State Attorney for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, where she regularly sought justice for victims of crimes. She spent several years in private practice, eventually forming the law firm of P. Alesia Rico Flores, LLC, where she practiced until her appointment to the position of Administrative Judge for the City of Charleston Municipal Court. After leaving the bench Ms. Flores held the role of South Carolina Director of Policy and Systems Change for a nonprofit organization focused on empowering individuals and families impacted by mass incarceration.
Among her professional accomplishments, Ms. Flores is proud to have improved the justice system and processes at the City of Charleston Municipal Court, playing a crucial role in establishing the first City of Charleston Homeless Court and addressing numerous problems as social challenges rather than criminal ones. In 2022 she was recognized by The South Carolina Supreme Court on its annual Pro Bono Honor Roll for volunteering 50 hours or more of legal services to those in need.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Flores earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina. Following this achievement, she attained a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary and gained a Juris Doctor from The University of Tulsa College of Law.
Within the coming years, Ms. Flores intends to further her professional growth and advocate more strongly on challenging social issues while expanding her law practice and gaining knowledge in more diverse areas of law. She also plans to offer her knowledge and experience to other organizations and firms to become an even greater advocate for individuals in need.
